Dr Wee expresses concern over floods in Johor

PETALING JAYA: Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong has expressed concern over the floods in Johor saying that there would likely be a rise in the number of victims and the number of roads closed.

The Ayer Hitam MP, who is currently at the Parliament meeting, said he had been receiving many messages from local leaders about the ongoing floods in Johor, particularly in his constituency.

"Since this morning, flood victims have been relocated to different relief centres. The rain is still ongoing and it is expected to last until the weekend.

"I'm afraid some roads in Johor will soon be inaccessible while the number of flood victims is on the rise," said Dr Wee in a Facebook post on Wednesday (March 1).

The MCA president said he would keep an eye on developments.

"I will continue to monitor the flood situation and do my best to help those affected," said Dr Wee.

According to the Johor Disaster Management Committee, there are 2,162 individuals from 581 families who have been evacuated in Segamat, Kluang, Kota Tinggi, Johor Bahru and Kulai as of 9am on Wednesday (March 1).

There were also reports of major road closures connecting Chaah, Tenang, Yong Peng and Labis due to rising water levels.

According to the Malaysian Meteorological Department, heavy rain is expected to continue until Thursday (March 2) in Johor.
