SEREMBAN: Two families in Negri Sembilan had to be evacuated so far after their homes were flooded following continuous rain in the state, says Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun.
The Mentri Besar said the families from Felda Jelai 4 in Gemas were moved to the Sekolah Agama Rakyat in the land scheme, which has been turned into a temporary flood relief centre.
"We have been fortunate so far compared to our neighbour (Johor) although it has also been raining here since yesterday (Feb 28) evening.
"We are also monitoring the situation in other areas as the water in Sg Muar near Rompin and Sg Gemas in Gemas has reached dangerous levels," he said after chairing the state exco meeting.
Aminuddin said the Negri Sembilan Command Centre or NeSCOM has been on alert since last week after the authorities had forecast a wet spell in the coming days.
NeSCOM's role is to help coordinate all rescue efforts in the event of a disaster in the state.
It comprises members from all government and rescue agencies and is based at Rumah JKR located in the Lake Gardens.
Aminuddin also advised the public, especially those living in low-lying areas, to remain alert at all times as the wet spell is expected to continue till Thursday (March 2).
"Park your cars on higher ground and make sure your most valuable belongings are secure so that you are able to move quickly if the need arises," he said.
The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) on Wednesday (March 1) issued a danger-level continuous rain warning for Pahang, Negri Sembilan, Melaka and Johor until Thursday (March 2).
Aminuddin also reminded the people to abide by instructions from the rescue teams.
"I have been told by rescue teams in the past that some people just refuse to move despite being repeatedly told.
"This will not only hinder rescue operations but disrupt the work of rescue teams," he said adding that the people need to adhere to instructions as water levels can rise quickly.
