PETALING JAYA: Despite being a weekday, scores of people were seen lining up at Immigration offices to renew their passports.

An analyst, who wanted to be known only as Chong, 29, said he intentionally took leave yesterday and lined up as early as 7am to renew his long expired passport.

“I’m planning to travel to the United Kingdom for my brother’s graduation later this year and figured it would be better to renew my passport several months in advance.

“Being a weekday, I did not expect a long line but was taken aback to see so many people already there.

“Despite that, the entire process was smooth, even with the longer wait,” he said.

A staff member at an Immigration office in the Klang Valley said people started lining up in the wee hours of the morning, with the crowds reducing before noon.

“We have special lanes dedicated for senior citizens and the disabled,” he said.
