Teen among 10 suspects nabbed for allegedly operating illegal online gambling operation


IPOH: A 15-year-old was among 10 individuals arrested for allegedly running an illegal online gambling operation.

Perak police chief Comm Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri said the suspects, who were part of a syndicate, were arrested during a raid at a double-storey house here on Tuesday (Feb 28).

“Based on the information we received, we raided the premises in a housing area and arrested nine men and a woman aged between 15 and 40 years old.

“It is believed that they were also programming and maintaining the website,” he said in a statement on Wednesday (March 1).

Comm Mohd Yusri said police also seized a laptop, three computers, 34 handphones, four internet modems and conversation scripts.

"The syndicate has both local and international customers.

“The 15-year-old individual was bailed out today while the remaining suspects are under remand from today until tomorrow (March 2),” he said, adding that the case is being investigated under Section 4(1)(c) of the Open Gaming House Act 1953.
