Floods: Dr Wee rushes to Johor after Parliament to check on affected constituents

PETALING JAYA: Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong is on the ground checking on flood victims in Johor, rushing to the southern state after discharging his duties as a lawmaker in Parliament in the morning.

The Ayer Hitam MP spent his Thursday (March 2) afternoon visiting various temporary flood relief centres (PPS), which housed his affected constituents.

As soon as he arrived in Ayer Hitam, Dr Wee visited SK Bukit Kuari PPS, which houses 111 victims from 30 families before going to SK Kota Dalam PPS, where 117 victims from 35 families were being sheltered.

"My team also delivered packed meals and drinks to the staff and flood victims at the PPS," the MCA president said in a Facebook post on Thursday.

Dr Wee later visited the relief centre at SK Seri Bulan with Yong Peng assemblyman Ling Tian Soon. He said that there were 65 evacuees from 31 families sheltered there.

"I came to make sure all their needs are met and enough in case more people need to relocate here from their flooded homes," he said.

Earlier, Dr Wee had said that as of 12.45pm, eight PPS had been opened in the Ayer Hitam parliamentary constituency, with 1,800 victims having been evacuated to the relief centres.

"This number may go up but we will ensure that their needs are taken care of," he said.

He also urged everyone affected by floods to get to the nearest relief centre on the authorities' advice to ensure safety.

"The Crisis Relief Squad of MCA (CRSM) and volunteer firefighters are there with the police, Bomba, Civil Defense Force, the National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma), People's Volunteer Corps (Rela), and other non-governmental organisations (NGOs) to help you if you need it," said Dr Wee.
