Friends who rage together go to court together


KULAI: Two friends have pleaded not guilty at a Magistrate’s Court here to a charge of criminal intimidation against a bus driver.

S. Hariprasat, 32, and M. Kali, 42, claimed trial before Magistrate Azureen Sahira Sauffee Afandi yesterday.

They were accused of committing criminal intimidation with the purpose of causing hurt to Zaihan Zainon, 32, along Jalan Batu 21 here at around 8.15am on Feb 24.

It is an offence under Section 506 of the Penal Code and if found guilty, they can be sentenced under Section 34 of the Code, which carries a maximum jail sentence of not more than two years, a fine, or both, upon conviction.

Azureen Sahira set bail at RM2,500 each with one surety and April 3 for next mention of the case.

Prosecution officer Insp Mohammad Dzulkhairi Saat prosecuted the case while lawyer Amarpreet Singh represented Hariprasat. Kali was not represented.

Both accused posted bail.

Last Saturday, police arrested the two suspects for road rage involving a public bus following a report lodged by the victim.

In a 1.19-minute video of the incident that made its rounds on social media, the suspects can be heard shouting profanities at the victim as well.
