Negri Sembilan remains on high alert

SEREMBAN: Only two families in Negri Sembilan have been evacuated so far after their homes were flooded following continuous rain, says Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun.

He said the families from Felda Jelai 4 in Gemas had been moved to a nearby school that had been turned into a temporary flood relief centre.

“We are also monitoring the situation in other areas as the water in Sungai Muar near Rompin and Sungai Gemas in Gemas has reached the dangerous level,” he said after chairing the state exco meeting here yesterday.

He said several other areas in Gemas and Gemencheh districts were also flooded due to the continuous rain.

These included Kampung Air Kuning, Kampung Gedok, and Gemas town, while Jalan Tampin-Gemas near Kem Syed Sirajuddin was closed to light vehicles.

Aminuddin said the Negri Sembilan Command Centre or NeSCOM had been on alert since last week after the authorities forecast a wet spell.

NeSCOM’s role is to help coordinate all rescue efforts in the event of a disaster in the state.

It comprises members from all government and rescue agencies and is based at Rumah JKR located in Lake Gardens.
