Driver injured, passengers okay as train catches fire


TANAH MERAH: A passenger train heading to the south caught fire when it was passing through Taman Tasek Kiara here.

Tanah Merah Fire and Rescue station chief Mohd Zulkifli Osman said the train driver was injured and had been sent to the local hospital.

“All the passengers were unhurt,” he added.

KTM Ekspres Rakyat Timuran was travelling from Tumpat, Kelantan, to Johor Baru when it caught fire on Thursday night.

The station was alerted at 10.36pm, he said, as reported by Bernama.

“Twelve personnel and two fire trucks were rushed to the scene,” Mohd Zulkifli said in a statement, adding that the fire was brought under control within 30 minutes of their arrival.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
