JOHOR BARU: The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a continuous rain warning until March 5, with three districts in Johor to experience danger-level rain.

State Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi said that all Johoreans are urged to keep themselves updated with the latest information from enforcement agencies and continue to keep themselves and their families safe.

"I have received a report from the Johor Meteorological Department on the dangerous level of torrential rain falling on Segamat, Kluang and Mersing.

"MetMalaysia has also forecasted bad weather in Muar, Tangkak, Batu Pahat, Pontian, Kulai, Kota Tinggi and Johor Baru.

"I hope that we can all share this message and remind others to always be aware and be safe," he said in a statement posted on his Facebook account on Saturday (March 4).

Onn Hafiz added that MetMalaysia also stated that the monsoon surges were expected to continue until March 6, with forecasts of continuous rain in east Peninsular Malaysia and strong winds and high sea levels in the South China Sea.

"This will probably cause a high tide in the eastern part of Johor, resulting in seawater overflow," he said.

As of 4pm, the State Disaster Management Committee reported that the number of flood victims in the nine affected districts was 39,476 people from 11,463 families.
