No emergency yet, but Johor will get help, says Fahmi

PUTRAJAYA: There is no need for a state of emergency to be imposed on flood-stricken Johor, says Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil.

He said while the matter was not discussed by the Cabinet, the weekly meeting did, however, look at how assistance could be extended to flood victims in the state.

“We looked at what can be done and assets that can be deployed to help Johor,” he told a press conference here yesterday.

Fahmi said Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who went to the ground to see for himself the situation, informed the Cabinet on the need for bailey bridges to be built as soon as possible.

He said the Cabinet was also informed of the Federal Government aid of RM50mil as an immediate assistance to Johor.

As at noon, there are 32,719 people from 9,610 families who have been affected by rising waters in 10 districts in the state.

Fahmi also said that the meeting was informed that a unity week would be held in Sarawak in May.

He said the unity week would showcase the government’s aspirations for a strong and united Malaysia.
