Covid-19: M'sia records 170 new cases, total now at 5,043,626


PETALING JAYA: Malaysia detected 170 new Covid-19 cases on Saturday (March 4), bringing the total number of infections in the country to 5,043,626 since the pandemic began.

The Health Ministry's KKMNow portal reported that 168 of Saturday's new Covid-19 cases were locally transmitted while there were two imported infections.

The portal also reported that recoveries continued to outpace new infections, with 178 individuals recovering from Covid-19 on Saturday.

This brings the total number of recoveries in the country to 4,997422 since the pandemic began.

According to KKMNow, as at 11.59pm Saturday, there were 9,239 active Covid-19 infections in the country, with 8,934 individuals, or 96.7% of active cases, observing home quarantine.

The portal also reported that 301 Covid-19 patients, or 3.3%, were seeking treatment at hospitals nationwide, with four being treated in intensive care units (ICU).

Of those in ICU as at 11.59pm Saturday, three were unventilated while one patient required ventilator support.

KKMNow also reported that Malaysia's overall hospital utilisation rate stood at 71.5% nationwide, while the ICU utilisation rate was at 62.9% as at 11.59pm Saturday.

No new deaths due to Covid-19 were reported on Saturday, and the total number of fatalities due to the coronavirus in Malaysia remains at 36,995 since the pandemic began.
