Floods: Sungai Rambut folks to work together to make hot meals for evacuees, says Dr Wee

PETALING JAYA: The Kampung Sungai Rambut Village Development and Security Committee (JKPP) in Ayer Hitam will be organising gotong-royong to cook hot meals for flood evacuees from Monday (March 6), says Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.

The Ayer Hitam MP said that in order to overcome logistics issues in delivering regular hot meals to flood victims seeking shelter at relief centres, the Kg Sg Rambut JKPP had decided to prepare such meals through gotong-royong from Monday.

"This is the spirit of togetherness of Ayer Hitam folk," the MCA president said in a Facebook post Sunday (March 5).

Dr Wee also took the time to visit the relief centres at SK Seri Bunut, Seri Bandan and SK Seri Manggis on Sunday.

He said that stroke patients and those with disabilities were among the 106 victims from 32 families seeking refuge at SK Seri Bunut.

"There are another 550 victims from 187 families at the Seri Bandan relief centre. Even the road leading here is flooded with water up to 0.4m," he said in his post.

He also visited the SK Seri Manggis relief centre, where 142 evacuees from 40 families are sheltering.

As at noon Sunday, the number of flood victims in Johor stood at 46,742 in 264 relief centres, with the largest number of evacuees located in Batu Pahat with 15,915.
