Police bust illegal gambling website makers

KUALA LUMPUR: Bukit Aman has crippled a syndicate that has been operating and building illegal online gambling websites.

Police secretary Deputy Comm Datuk Noorsiah Mohd Saaduddin said police conducted a raid in Kuala Lumpur on Feb 28.

“Based on information from our surveillance, the syndicate was operating under the guise of two companies that dealt in information technology and computers.

“They would utilise their services to build websites and compile online gambling games based on the needs of their clientele in and outside Malaysia.

“The raid saw 39 people aged between 23 and 49 being arrested.

“Among them were seven foreigners – five men and two women,” she said in a statement yesterday.

DCP Noorsiah said nine desktop computers, 30 laptops, 47 cellphones and three modems were also seized.
