Covid-19 Watch: 164 new cases, nationwide ICU bed usage at 61.2pc


PETALING JAYA: Malaysia recorded 164 new Covid-19 cases on Sunday (March 5), bringing the total number of cases in the country to 5,043,790 infections since the pandemic began.

The Health Ministry's KKMNow portal reported that 162 of Sunday's new Covid-19 cases were local transmissions while two imported infections were logged.

Recoveries outpaced new infections, with 198 patients recovering on Sunday. This brings the cumulative number of recoveries in Malaysia to 4,997,620 since the pandemic began.

The portal also reported that there were 9,204 active cases currently in the country, with 8,888, or 96.6%, observing home quarantine.

The KKMNow portal reported that 316 patients, or 3.43% of the total, were currently admitted to hospital for treatment. The number of Covid-19 patients warded at intensive care units (ICU) throughout the country stands at two.

The ICU utilisation rate nationwide stood at 61.2%, with nine states or localities recording ICU usage rates of more than 60%.

Putrajaya had the highest ICU utilisation rate at 92.9%, followed by Selangor (78.2%), Kuala Lumpur (75.7%), Kelantan (74%), Terengganu (71.4%), Melaka (69.6%), Johor (67.9%), Kedah (67.1%) and Perak (65.3%).

Meanwhile, the Health Ministry's GitHub data repository reported that one Covid-19 death was reported on Sunday.

This brings the death toll to 36,966.
