JOHOR BARU: The number of flood victims in Johor has increased slightly to 49,410 people as of 8am from 49,070 victims at 4am on Monday (March 6).
They are from 14,125 families currently seeking shelter at 269 temporary relief centres (PPS) in all 10 districts hit by the flood.
The districts are Batu Pahat, Johor Baru, Kulai, Kota Tinggi, Kluang, Mersing, Muar, Pontian, Segamat and Tangkak.
“Batu Pahat has the highest number of victims with 20,767 people from 5,809 families at 73 centres, Segamat with 11,023 from 3,253 families at 76 PPS and Kluang with 4,770 people from 1,378 families at 35 centres," said the state Disaster Management Committee in a statement.
Muar has 4,625 people from 1,358 families people at 26 PPS, Tangkak with 3,220 victims from 949 families at 24 centres, Kota Tinggi with 3,160 people from 837 families seeking shelter at 20 centres, and 1,167 victims from 346 families at six centres in Mersing.
There are 327 victims from 114 families at three PPS in Johor Baru, 278 people from 68 families in Pontian at five PPS and 64 victims from 15 families at one centre in Kulai.
“Rivers in Segamat, Muar, Tangkak, Batu Pahat, Kluang and Kota Tinggi have breached dangerous levels," said the statement.
Jalan Sri Bengkal, Jalan Parit Jalil, Jalan Olak Batu, Jalan Sri Medan, Jalan Bindu and Jalan Pancor in Batu Pahat are closed to all vehicles.
In Kluang, roads closed to all vehicles are Jalan Lingkaran Kahang Barat, Jalan GSA Chamek and Jalan Kota Tinggi-Kluang and in Kulai, Jalan Ulu Tebrau-Sungai Tiram.
The roads closed in Muar are Jalan Muar-Labis, Jalan Durian Condong, Jalan Tekam-Pogoh, Jalan Kampung Liang Batu and Jalan Renchong-Gombang.
Jalan Tumang, Jalan Balai Polis Buloh Kasap, Jalan Putting, Jalan Lama Simpang Loi and Jalan Senai-Gemas – all in Segamat are non-accessible to all vehicles.
In Tangkak, roads closed are Jalan Durian Condong-Bukit Kepong, Jalan Jeti Kampung Penchu, Jalan Sungai Mati-Bukit Serampang, Jalan Parit Cina and Jalan Panchor.
