Home Ministry yet to receive letter from ROS approving Umno no-contest motion, says Saifuddin

GEORGE TOWN: The Home Ministry has yet to see the letter from the Registrar of Societies (ROS) approving the additional motion that the posts of Umno president and deputy president not be challenged in the party’s election this year.

Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail (pic) confirmed that he had not seen the letter from ROS regarding the approval of the additional motion of the Umno general assembly.

Declining to comment further, Saifuddin said he would need time to “see” the letter in a few days.

"I have not had communication with anyone.

"I was outstation and I am only here today (referring to attending the Penang state assembly).

"To be fair, give me time to look at the letter first,” he said when asked about the issue.

Saifuddin said he did not want to speculate.

"I do not want to make a statement in haste," he said.

On Saturday (March 4) Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the party had received a letter from Saifuddin on Friday (March 3) regarding the ROS decision.

He said on Sunday (March 5) that Umno will publish the letter from ROS.

He said he would ask the party’s secretary-general Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan to see to this so that all members are reassured over the matter.

Ahmad Zahid, who is also Rural and Regional Development Minister, said it is hoped that the ROS letter would bring to an end any polemic against the motion that was approved during the 2022 Umno general assembly in January this year.

"The Umno general assembly is the party’s highest decision body and the rules and constitution were adhered to, so the decision is final and we will end the polemics against the resolution," he added.
