Move on from debate over Umno's no-contest decision, says Ahmad Maslan

PETALING JAYA: The motion not to contest Umno's president and deputy president posts made at the party's general assembly does not violate the party's constitution, says Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan.

The Umno secretary-general tweeted this was not the first time the top two posts in Umno have been uncontested.

"Let's move forward from this and help the citizens of our nation," he tweeted.

Ahmad Maslan's statement comes after a letter, purportedly by the Registrar of Societies (ROS), saying that Umno's no-contest motion for the two posts was invalid.

On Tuesday (March 7), Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail confirmed that Umno had been given an exemption under the Societies Act 1966 regarding the party's resolution on the issue.

In January this year, the 2022 Umno general assembly passed an additional motion that the president and deputy president posts would not be contested.
