PN more concerned about political interest than people’s issues, says Loke

SEPANG: PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang’s statement on toppling the government is a manifestation of Perikatan Nasional putting political interest over rakyat’s issues, says Anthony Loke.

The DAP secretary-general said that Perikatan needs to respect the unity government that has been formed after a tedious process involving the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and the Council of Rulers following the 15th General Election.

“This (Abdul Hadi’s statement) shows that Perikatan has nothing else to do other than plotting to ‘rob’ the (unity) government to form another ‘backdoor government’.

“They need to respect the process that the unity government had gone through that included the King and the Conference of Rulers,” he told reporters at an event at AirAsia’s headquarters here on Tuesday (March 7).

Loke also said that the Opposition should play its role in Parliament through the avenues provided instead of continuously politicking.

“For example, the government still respects the policy that we have since 2018 which was to appoint the Opposition as the chairman of the Public Accounts Committee,” he added.

He also said if the Opposition keeps playing their political game, it would affect the confidence of foreign investors.

“We’ve just started to receive foreign investors because finally after three months since the GE15, our political situation is getting stable.

“But, the Opposition still kept on politicking and it would be irresponsible,” he added.

On Monday (March 6), Abdul Hadi said the Opposition has every right to try and topple the unity government.

In defending his earlier remarks, the PAS president clarified that his statement was merely political in nature and something that is "normal".

Previously, he also said that the current administration will fall in the near future, but he did not provide details on how the fall of the government would happen.
