IPOH: Thanks to continuous flood mitigation efforts, fewer flash floods have been reported despite a downpour,” says Datuk Rumaizi Baharin.

The Ipoh mayor said since the end of 2021 to the present, the Ipoh City Council has installed new water pumps, deepened riverbeds, and upgraded drains.

“So this year despite the heavy downpour on most days, very few cases of flash floods have been reported.

“Otherwise with the amount of rainfall, if it was in 2020 or 2021, there will definitely be many cases of flash floods,” he said after presenting ‘back to school’ items to some 110 primary and secondary schools students at Dewan Taman Cempaka here Wednesday (March 8).

The recipients were children of the council staff under the B40 category. During the first session held a few days back, some 50 recipients were presented with the items.

The event was a cooperation between the council, Punca Emas Infra Sdn Bhd and Canggih Sutera, to help relieve the burden of parents with the new school session opening soon.

Also present were Punca Emas’s Ipoh section manager Mohd Azham Azmi, and Canggih Sutera’s managing director Rozamir Zulkifli.

Rumaizi, however, added that the authorities would continue to monitor flood-prone areas during the rainy season.

“Workers would clean such areas more often to ensure that the outlets are not clogged,” he added.
