KUALA LUMPUR: Pakatan Harapan Youth has urged the police to investigate PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang over his statement that the opposition has every right to topple the government.
Amanah executive council member Fadhli Umar Aminolhuda said Abdul Hadi had gone against the Yang di-Pertuan Agong’s wish when he made that statement.
“His action is irresponsible and clearly against the wish of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong,” he said, adding that this was very unbecoming of an MP.
Fadhli Umar said he hoped the police would investigate Abdul Hadi and those trying to topple a government that had been formed legitimately.
“Such a statement will only lead to trouble and disrupt public order,” he told reporters after lodging a report against Abdul Hadi at the Dang Wangi police headquarters here yesterday.
When contacted, Dang Wangi OCPD Asst Comm Noor Dellhan Yahaya confirmed receiving the report.
Earlier, Amanah Youth had handed over a memorandum at the Istana Negara, urging the Yang di-Pertuan Agong to strip Abdul Hadi of his Tan Sri and other titles.
Its deputy chief Abbas Salimmi Adzmi said this should come as a form of punishment for Abdul Hadi’s disrespect toward the King and Council of Rulers.
On Monday, Abdul Hadi told reporters in the Parliament lobby that no one could stop the opposition from making plans to topple the government.
Despite criticism of his remarks, he said his claim was “merely political” and “normal” in politics.
During his debate on Budget 2023 on Feb 28, the Marang MP had also said that Perikatan Nasional ought not be blamed should the government collapse.
On March 3, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said it was Abdul Hadi’s right to plan and dream of the government collapsing.
