A MAN in Miri, Sarawak, successfully proposed to his long-time girlfriend with the help of a lion dance troupe, reported Sin Chew Daily.

According to a video shared online, two lions unfurled banners containing the proposal from their mouths.

The man, whose name was Zheng Zou Yong, then got down on one knee in front of his girlfriend of eight years. She accepted his proposal immediately.

Zheng, a journalist, said he wanted to surprise his girlfriend but could not think of a refreshing way to propose.

“It was during the start of the year when I saw photos of the Long Ling lion dance troupe’s performance. That’s where I drew inspiration from.

“So I thought, why not propose through a lion dance?” he said.

Zheng said he was happy that the proposal went well and that his sons and daughters have given him their blessings.

His girlfriend, Huang Xin Ying, said she suspected something was up because Zheng had been behaving strangely a few days before the proposal.

As she was returning after attending a concert in Kuala Lumpur, he kept asking her when she would arrive at the Miri Airport and whether her flight would be delayed.

Huang said Zheng had lured her to the Shui Kou temple, saying that he had some work there.

“I saw a celebrity’s page on the Internet that someone was going to propose in front of the Shui Kou temple.

“But I thought my boyfriend was there to cover the news,” she said.

Huang said she only realised the proposal was meant for her after reading the messages from the banners the lions “spat” out.

> King of Comedy Stephen Chow and King of Mandopop Jay Chou are working on a secret project together, reported China Press.

Chow, who is active on social media, recently posted a picture of himself enjoying a glass of red wine while listening to a song by Chou.

“Let’s meet in Hong Kong!” he wrote in the caption.

Chou, who is in Paris, France, quickly replied: “Xing Ye (Chow’s nickname). So cool!” he wrote.

Chou continued the conversation by asking if Chow wanted red wine from Paris, to which Chow replied that he wanted only “a fallen leaf from a Katsura tree”.

Many fans were excited that the two, who were the best of the best in their respective art forms, would be working together.

“They must be working on a movie together,” an Internet user speculated.

When contacted, Chow’s agency confirmed that they were collaborating but declined to reveal details about them.

Chow is a household name in Hong Kong and is best known for his slapstick humour showcased in blockbusters such as Fight Back to School, From Beijing with Love, King of Comedy, CJ7 and Kung Fu Hustle.
