GOMBAK: There is nothing wrong in wanting to change the government, says Perikatan Nasional infomation chief Datuk Seri Azmin Ali (pic).
He said this to a few hundred people from Perikatan Nasional party components who attended a rally on Saturday night (March 11) at the PAS training centre at Taman Melewar to state their support for the coalition chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin after he was charged for corruption.
With fiery speeches from Perikatan leaders, the coalition attended by Muhyiddin, PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang, Gerakan president Dominic Lau and other party leaders from Perikatan component parties kicked off a national roadshow titled "Solidarity against Tyranny" at the event at the PAS training centre at Taman Melewar.
The Perikatan members wore bandannas with the words "Abah Tabah" (stay strong Abah) and shouted "Long Live Abah" and the PAS rally cry of "Takbir".
The speeches of the leaders were led by Azmin, who was also the former economic minister during the tenure of Muhyiddin's premiership.
"During the tenure of the prime ministership of Muhyidddin, the government gave out RM21bil to inject wages to ensure companies were not forced to be shut down.
"People are asking for EPF withdrawals - but the finance minister said the people should ask for bank loans and use EPF as the collateral," said Azmin.
The national roadshow is expected to go down to the various states with party leaders explaining the charges against Muhyiddin.
On March 10, Muhyiddin was charged with four counts of abuse of power for using his position as the then PM when his party allegedly obtained gratification of RM232.5mil in bribes from corporate entities.
He also faces two more charges of money laundering, wherein his party received RM195mil out of the total sum from illegal activities.
According to the charges, the money was deposited into Bersatu’s bank accounts in bribes from three companies and an individual.
The companies are Bukhary Equity Sdn Bhd, Nepturis Sdn Bhd, and Mamfor Sdn Bhd, while the individual is one Datuk Azman Yusoff.
For the remaining two charges, he was charged with receiving proceeds from illegal activities amounting to RM195mil out of the RM232.5mil from Bukhary Equity.
