Ex-Umno Youth chief Dr Asyraf appointed as Mara chairman, confirms Zahid

KOTA TINGGI: Former Umno Youth chief Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki has been appointed as Majlis Amanah Rakyat (Mara) chairman starting last Friday (March 10), says Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

The Rural and Regional Development Minister added that he had handed over Asyraf's appointment letter on the same day during a ceremony held at the ministry office in Putrajaya.

“Yes, I have appointed him (Asyraf) last Friday. I have also handed over his appointment letter at the ministry office as Mara is an agency under the ministry,” the Deputy Prime Minister said.

He said this during a press conference after his working visit to the Southeast Johor Development Authority (Kejora) office in Bandar Penawar, here, on Sunday (March 12).

Ahmad Zahid said this when asked to comment on a rumour claiming Asyraf’s appointment to the post following a picture of him and Asyraf at the ministry office.

Asyraf had earlier uploaded several pictures of his resume through his Facebook account, saying that he was currently looking for a job.

He had also congratulated his successor, Dr Akmal Saleh, for winning the Umno Youth chief post for the 2023/2026 term.
