'Datuk Roy' turns himself in

PUTRAJAYA: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has arrested Mohd Hussein Mohd Nasir, better known as "Datuk Roy", over the Jana Wibawa programme.

The 54-year-old surrendered to graft authorities earlier on Monday (March 13).

"He will be brought to the Magistrate's Court where an application will be made to obtain a remand order," a source told The Star.

MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki confirmed the arrest.

The anti-graft agency had earlier issued a statement, naming Mohd Hussein as a person of interest to help in its investigation into the programme.

It was also reported that "Datuk Roy" had a previous graft conviction.

On March 9, the MACC arrested four people aged between 40 and 50, including an MACC officer and a woman.

They were alleged to have solicited and accepted a bribe of RM400,000 to prevent an investigation into the case.

The Jana Wibawa programme was approved for implementation by the Cabinet in November 2020, aimed at easing the economic woes of bumiputra contractors during the Covid-19 pandemic.
