JOHOR BARU: The Communications and Digital Ministry will wait for police investigations following the case of a death threat made against the popular Indonesian rock band Radja.
Its minister Fahmi Fadzi said that the public should be mindful of their words, especially online, as they can be easily misinterpreted by other people.
“We will let the police continue their investigation; I was informed that a few individuals have been arrested in relation to the case, so we will wait for any new information from the authorities,” he said.
“I think that we should be mindful of what we say online, and that is why digital or internet literacy is important. Sometimes, what we think is a joke might come out differently to other people,” added Fahmi.
Earlier, police had arrested two men to help with an investigation into a death threat made against the Indonesian rock band Radja.
Johor police chief Datuk Kamarul Zaman Mamat said the suspects are aged 37 and 48 and were arrested at the Johor Baru south district police headquarters at 3.30pm on Sunday.
He said this when met by reporters after attending an aid handout programme for flood victims in Tiram at Dewanraya Kampung Sungai Tiram here on Monday (March 13).
Fahmi had been asked to comment on the police report made by the rock band and whether it would affect Malaysia’s status in welcoming foreign artistes to the country.
“Malaysia is always open for business, and the National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (Finas) has come up with a report expecting RM1.02bil worth of investment in local film production in the country this year,” he said.
Asked to comment on whether the ministry would take any action following the attack on local actor Kamal Adli in Singapore on Sunday (March 12), Fahmi said he is still waiting for the full report on the incident and would come up with a statement on the matter.
“The safety of artistes is a serious matter, but we will have to wait for the report,” he said.
