JOHOR BARU: Students from flood-affected schools will be allowed to conduct home-based teaching and learning (PdPR) at Keluarga Malaysia Digital Economic Centres (Pedi).
Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzi said that the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) would work closely with the Johor Education Department to ensure that their online sessions are uninterrupted.
"The new school term will start next week, so we have a few days to prepare. We will engage the Education Ministry on this, especially state Education Departments," he said after attending an aid handout programme for flood victims in Tiram at Dewanraya Kampung Sungai Tiram here on Monday (March 13).
Fahmi also said that about 80 communication towers from a total 160 affected by the flood have been recovered and are running as usual.
"The main challenges right now are in Batu Pahat as some locations are still inundated.
"Based on the MCMC report, there are also 40 communication towers that have been fixed using the site-hardening method in flood-prone areas," he said.
Earlier, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said that students from flood-affected schools in Johor would be placed at temporary premises to ensure that their classes were not interrupted.
He added there were currently 17 schools in Johor affected by floods, with Segamat being the worst hit with 14 schools affected.
On March 7, Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek said that there would be no postponement of the 2023/2024 academic school session scheduled for March 19 and 20 in flood-hit states.
