PETALING JAYA: Prof Dr Mohd Faiz Abdullah has been appointed chairman of the Institute of Strategic and International Studies (Isis) Malaysia for a three-year term effective Feb 17.
He was appointed by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for his extensive experience in public policy and research.
"I wish to express my profound thanks to the Prime Minister for entrusting me with the responsibility of managing Isis Malaysia.
"With Malaysia Madani as the guiding philosophy of nationhood, Malaysia is poised to take on a larger role in the international arena and we’re here to advance that agenda and help realise our global aspirations," he said in a statement Tuesday (March 14).
Mohd Faiz was a special adviser on international policy and affairs with the Selangor government, and later an adviser on strategic and international relations at the Economic Affairs Ministry and International Trade and Industry Ministry.
In 2009, he co-founded the World Forum for Muslim Democrats, with Anwar as the chair, dedicated to providing a vibrant platform for intellectuals to discourse on Islam, reform, democracy and governance.
The Prime Minister has also appointed the following to the Isis board of directors:
Foreign Affairs Ministry secretary-general Datuk Amran Mohamed Zain; Treasury secretary-general Datuk Johan Mahmood Merican; Defence Ministry secretary-general Datuk Seri Muez Abd Aziz;
Prof Dr Mohamed Aslam Mohamed Haneef from the International Islamic University Malaysia; Prof Dr Rozanah Ab Rahman from Universiti Putra Malaysia; and Strand Aerospace CEO Naguib Mohd Nor.
Additionally, Anwar also agreed to the appointment of V. Raman Narayanan of the Sunway Group and Prof Dr Tham Siew Yean, visiting senior fellow of the ISEAS-Yusof Ishak Institute, to the board.
