Man gets life sentence, whipping in Sibu for drug trafficking


SIBU: A man has been sentenced to life imprisonment and 15 strokes of the cane by the High Court here for drug trafficking.

Justice Christopher Chin passed the sentence on Wednesday (March 15) after finding Wee Ee Kai, 28, guilty of trafficking 695.63g of methamphetamine at about noon on June 19, 2020, at a courier company in Jalan Tun Abang Hj Openg.

The accused was charged under Section 39B(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, punishable under Section 39B(2) of the same Act.

The section provides for the death sentence or life in prison and 15 strokes upon conviction.

Wee was represented by Daren Ling while DPP Mark Kenneth Netto prosecuted.
