MELAKA: The search and rescue operation for a missing hiker at Bukit Beruang here has entered its second day.
Melaka Fire and Rescue Department director Abu Bakar Katain identified the missing 45-year-old hiker as Kevin Tan Kim Huat.
He said the search and rescue team of 150 personnel from various agencies including the Melaka Defence Force and police had combed the 40ha forest reserve site but had yet to determine his whereabouts.
Abu Bakar said there were 12 trails within the forest reserve and SAR would be continued along these routes.
The hiker, he said, also had some health complications based on the information provided by his family members.
Tan was reported missing at 4.30pm on Tuesday (March 14) while hiking at Bukit Beruang after leaving his car parked at the entrance.
One of his relatives, who did not want to be identified, said the father of two was supposed to have returned to his mother's house in Krubong Jaya here at 8pm on the same day.
The family lodged a police report after he failed to be located and calls to his mobile phone went unanswered.
The relative also said that Tan who lives in Kajang, Selangor often returned back to his mother's house and frequently went hiking at the site.
