State plans to build more transit homes for eligible Johoreans, says MB

JOHOR BARU: Johor plans to build more Rumah Transit Bangsa Johor (RTBJ) within the next five years, says Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi.

He said there are plans to build some 500 units of RTBJ, starting from 92 units this year and 216 units in 2024.

"The housing scheme is to encourage home ownership for eligible Johoreans," he said.

Onn said this at the launch of the Johor Housing Development Corporation (PKPJ) Transformation Services on Thursday (March 16) here.

He said Johor's RTBJ scheme was different from the Rent-to-Own (RTO), which was practised in other states.

Onn said under the scheme, he said eligible Johoreans would have to fork out RM650 monthly in order for them to own the RTBJ houses.

He said from the RM650, RM455 would be deducted as a monthly rent while the RM195 as their monthly savings for five years.

"The amount accumulated from the savings after five years is RM11,000 and the money will be used as a deposit to pay for a house," said Onn.

He said the scheme would give opportunities to more eligible Johoreans to own affordable houses.

Separately, Onn said two special task forces would be mobilised to address the property overhang and squatters issue in Johor.

He said the state Housing Development Corporation (PKPJ) would also address the 50 abandoned projects, adding that two projects had been solved.

"We are confident to solve the issue and urged all stakeholders to work together to overcome the problem," said Onn.
