Jihad against Inflation task force disbanded

THE Special Task Force on Jihad against Inflation has been disbanded, says Deputy Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Fuziah Salleh.

“The meetings (held by the task force) that took place twice a week were ineffective.

“Therefore the task force is discontinued,” she said during Question Time yesterday.

She was responding to a supplementary question raised by Tan Kar Hing (PH-Gopeng) who asked whether the task force was still active and effective.

The special task force, set up in June last year, was led by former communications and multimedia minister Tan Sri Annuar Musa.

Earlier, Fuziah said under the unity government, a special task force set up to monitor and implement measures to tackle the rising cost of living has been established.

“It is meant to streamline the implementation of strategies and action plans to address the cost of living issues more effectively.”

She added that the consumer price index has shown a lower rise in inflation in January compared to the same period last year.

For temporary measures to fight inflation, the government has introduced several approaches under the Rahmah initiative, she noted.

“This is a short-term measure to assist the people while we address the need to increase salaries so that Malaysians can have better spending power,” she said.
