BANGI: A total of 25 selected Ramadan bazaars have agreed to participate in the Rahmah Bazaar programme nationwide, says Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub.
“These stalls will feature the Menu Rahmah and people will also be able to enjoy up to 30% discount on items.
“The rent for the stalls at Rahmah Bazaar are given at a special rate by the local councils and the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL),” he told a press conference here yesterday.
Earlier, Salahuddin launched the SZBlooms Jualan Rahmah featuring international branded household items being offered at a discounted price from as low as RM49.
Meanwhile, the Selangor government, through Yayasan Hijrah Selangor, is providing two special Ramadan bazaar sites in Shah Alam to help traders who received funding from the foundation.
State housing, urban well-being and entrepreneur development committee chairman Rodziah Ismail said 62 traders had registered for this initiative at the Section 7 site and Section U3 sites here.
Petty Traders and Hawkers Association president Datuk Rosli Sulaiman said introducing a special Menu Rahmah might be a challenge because Ramadan is the time for most small food businesses to increase their income.
However, he called on hawkers to support the government’s initiative.
“The traders at Ramadan Bazaar might not be able to offer food at RM5, but we still encourage them to ensure the prices are affordable.
“At the same time, the government must continue to control the prices of raw materials to support traders during Ramadan,” he added.
Mydin Mohamed Holdings Bhd managing director Datuk Ameer Ali Mydin said they would launch their Ramadan Menu Rahmah for the fasting month.
“We also intend to introduce a Menu Ramadan which includes kurma, syrup drinks and porridge, among other things,” he said.
