Umno polls: Najib’s son Nazifuddin wins Langkawi party chief post, say sources

LANGKAWI: The son of Datuk Seri Najib Razak, Datuk Mohd Nazifuddin, is now Langkawi Umno chief.

While official results of the Umno divisional voting on Saturday (March 18) is not out yet, party sources revealed that he won the post with a 12-vote majority.

This is the second Umno leadership victory stemming from Najib's family.

Early this month, his daughter, Nooryana Najwa, won enough votes to be in the Puteri Umno exco.

Mohd Nazifuddin himself had thrown his hat into the Umno party polls, offering himself to be Youth vice-chief, but he came in third in a four-corner fight.

About a month ago, when announcing that he was aiming for the Langkawi Umno chief post, Mohd Nazifuddin said after the passing of previous chief, Datuk Nawawi Ahmad, last November, several Umno members approached him to offer himself as a candidate.

As the secretary-general of the Olympic Council of Malaysia, Mohd Nazifuddin had said that with his international exposure, he hoped to contribute to Langkawi's tourism sector.
