Venue for Malay Proclamation gathering cancelled – for the third time

PETALING JAYA: The "Malay Proclamation" gathering supposed to feature former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad in Selayang at 3pm on Sunday (March 19) has been cancelled at the last minute, despite the deposit having been paid.

This is the third venue that has cancelled the gathering.

A source said that organisers had tried looking for another venue but all those large enough to house the gathering had refused.

"Dr Mahathir will be holding a press conference instead at 3pm Sunday," said the source.

On Sunday (March 19), the rally secretariat released a statement to inform that the programme involving "statesman Dr Mahathir, which is due to be held Sunday faced difficulties when the first venue of the event, which was booked earlier, was cancelled due to technicalities.

On March 17, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim issued a stern warning against parties he said were using race and religion to promote strife.
