PUTRAJAYA: Universiti Malaya (UM) student Mifzal Salihin was on cloud nine after winning the Higher Education Minister's Award and being crowned Tokoh Siswa Kebangsaan in conjunction with the Best Student Award 2022 organised by the Higher Education Ministry on Monday (March 20) night.
Mifzal, 22, a third-year student at the Mechanical Engineering faculty, was selected to receive the award as a result of his excellent involvement in the field of entrepreneurship that benefited his colleagues in the university.
Speaking to reporters after the ceremony, Mifzal said he had created an online tutoring class called "AfterKelas.com" three years ago which involved the participation of between 40 and 50 UM students thus far.
"These are active tutors who teach Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics subjects. It is estimated that their monthly income is between RM1,000 and RM1,500," he said.
The eldest of four siblings from Shah Alam, Selangor, also shared his ambition of becoming a successful entrepreneur upon graduation.
He took home RM3,000 cash along with the main trophy, scholarship and certificate presented by Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin.
Earlier, during the opening speech, Mohamed Khaled said the KPT Tokoh Siswa award was a platform to appreciate and recognise the excellence of students in various fields including academics, personality and co-curriculum. - Bernama
