Suspect held in cat carcasses case


KUALA LUMPUR: A 31-year-old man has been detained in connection with the discovery of numerous cat skeletons, organs and carcasses in a condominium unit in Bandar Sri Permaisuri, Cheras here.

Cheras OCPD Asst Comm Zam Halim Jamaluddin said the suspect was detained on Saturday (March 25).

"He has been remanded until Tuesday (March 28). We are investigating under Section 428 of the Penal Code for mischief by killing or maiming animals," he said when contacted on Sunday (March 26).

ACP Zam Halim said police received a report on the incident on March 13.

"We urge those with information to contact the police as soon as possible," he added.

On Friday (March 24), the Malaysia Animal Association (MAA) said in a Facebook post that the homeowner made the gruesome discovery in a condo unit rented by the suspect.

The act came to light after neighbours complained about a stench coming from the house.

MAA also urged the Veterinary Services Department to conduct a thorough probe.
