A WOMAN who spent 18 years in a hospital due to a degenerative disease has finally returned to her home in Negri Sembilan, Mingguan Malaysia reported.
Siti Nurul Hidayah Mohamad Sofi, 25, was thrilled to be back with her family, though she admits to missing the staff at the Tuanku Ampuan Najihah Hospital who had cared for her since she was six years old, said her mother Dayang Lohani Awang Zain.
“Five years ago, we were told my daughter could return home but due to some complications, we could not bring her back yet.
“Finally, the time has come,” said Dayang Lohani, who used to make daily visits to the hospital.
She said Siti Nurul Hidayah, who suffers from cervical cord myelopathy, enjoys watching TV at home these days.
Dayang Lohani, 56, said she was initially worried about her own capability of caring for Nurul Hidayah, since she often had help from the nurses and doctors before.
“But once she got home, we know this has been the moment that we have been waiting for,” said the widow, who has four other children.
She said her daughter missed seeing the nurses and doctors, after being cared for by them for so long.
“She would cry thinking about them before she goes to sleep.”
Dayang Lohani said she was thankful to the Negri Sembilan Islamic Religious Council and Yayasan Munarah for their help.
The council had also provided a bed and mechanical ventilation equipment, among others, to them.
> Ipoh-born actor Chew Kin Wah, who once won a Best Supporting Actor award in an Indonesian film festival back in 2017, caught the attention of many online after he shared publicly his humble beginnings.
His mother used to run a canteen in a production plant, Mingguan Malaysia reported.
He recalled having to save money for years to buy a pair of shoes that cost RM60.
“My family wasn’t wealthy, nor were we poor.
“When I was a kid, my favourite food was salted eggs,” said Chew, now 57 years old.
He also said that Jakarta is like a second home to him, as he has the chance to get a variety of acting jobs.
“In Indonesia, I was offered a vast array of roles from acting as the father of a Jakarta governor to being a badminton coach.”
Chew, who speaks Malay, English, Cantonese and the Indonesian language, has appeared in movies such as Cek Toko Sebelah and Dimsum Murtabak.
