JKMPay not accessible to OKU, says NGO

PETALING JAYA: The JKMPay scheme was inaccessible to the group it was targeted at, say organisations for the disabled as they lauded the Women, Family, and Community Development Ministry’s decision to discontinue it.

“The JKMPay system, introduced last April, was inaccessible and did not address the needs of disabled people as it only allowed the cashless card to be used at stores registered with Bank Islam Malaysia Bhd,” said Malaysia Independent Living Association for Disabled chairman Sia Siew Chin.

“This is a positive step towards ensuring that welfare assistance is more inclusive and responsive to the needs of all Malaysians,” she said in a statement yesterday.
