Malaysia recorded significant trade with China at over RM880bil, says Dr Wee

PETALING JAYA: Malaysia's bilateral trade with China, which recorded over US$200bil (RM884.5bil), is significant as it comprises 20% of China's trade with Asean," says Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.

The MCA president also said that trade volume between China and Asean is expected to breach US$1000bil (RM4.42 trillion) this year.

Dr Wee said he received this information from China’s Minister of Commerce, H.E. Wang Wentao, during Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's visit to China last week.

"In 2006, the MCA Youth convoy travelled from Kuala Lumpur to Kunming, China in four-wheel drive vehicles on ‘The Journey of Friendship’ between Malaysia and China. At that time, Wang was the Kunming Mayor.

"Fast forward, 17 years later, Wang has been appointed the Chinese Minister of Commerce and I am honoured to meet him during the recent trip," he said on Facebook on Monday (April 3).
