IPOH: Visitors to the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital who park their cars by the roadside outside the premises will not be slapped with summonses until May, says Comm Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri.
The Perak police chief said that this is due to the lack of public parking bays in the area and that many are seeking treatment at the hospital daily.
"We have also taken into consideration that a piece of land near the hospital that had been used as a parking lot is being developed into a proper parking space,” said Comm Mohd Yusri.
"The development is expected to be completed in May," he added at a press conference after a high profile policing programme at the Ramadan bazaar near the Perak Stadium here on Wednesday (apr 5).
Comm Mohd Yusri said people have been urged to park their cars properly during the grace period.
"People should not double-park or park in a manner that could cause traffic congestion or block ambulances from going in or out of the hospital,” he said
"For these, the police will not hesitate to issue a summons,” added Comm Mohd Yusri.
He said that the police will have scheduled patrols in the area to ensure everything is smooth.
Separately, Comm Mohd Yusri also said the police have received 408 applications to sell fireworks in the state in conjunction with the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations.
"As of April 4, we have approved 174 applications while 230 applications are still being processed.
We have rejected four applications for various reasons, including not meeting the standard operating procedures, unsuitable location and an applicant that has a criminal record," he said.
He also said that the police had held operations and seized RM40,500 worth of contraband fireworks in three districts, including Ipoh, Taiping and Kampar.
"We also arrested three men during the operations," he said.
