KOTA KINABALU: The underprivileged in Sabah and Labuan will get food baskets from the PETRONAS Foundation in conjunction with the agency’s Hari Raya Aidilfitri programme.
The food packages would include basic food necessities and festive food supplies such as glutinous rice, coconut milk, rendang paste and peanut sauce, said PETRONAS Project Delivery and Technology senior vice -president Datuk Bacho Pilong.
Apart from that, these recipients - 300 in Sabah and 150 in Labuan - will also get PETRONAS gift cards where they can purchase fuel and other things at the Kedai Mesra at all PETRONAS stations, he said.
"This distribution under our 'Memacu Kehidupan: Hari Raya Aidilfitri 2023' programme is done in support of the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry’s Bakul Rahmah initiative," he said.
Bacho said this initiative is supported by PETRONAS Dagangan Bhd, Sabah Social Welfare Services Department as well as the Social Welfare Department Malaysia.
"Through the Memacu Kehidupan initiative, Yayasan PETRONAS extends necessities aimed at improving the well-being of the communities.
"We understand that the festive season can be particularly difficult for the less fortunate and Yayasan PETRONAS is committed to doing its part to make the season a little brighter for these individuals and families," he said.
Bacho said the Memacu Kehidupan programme is designed to provide not just food, but to also bring about a sense of community and support during the festive season.
He said this during the handing over of food assistance to Rumah Anak Yatim As-Sakinah of Papar, Wednesday (April 5).
Other Sabah recipients would include Pusat Aktiviti Warga Emas and Pertubuhan Pemulihan Dalam Komunity (both are in Papar), Pertubuhan Pemulihan Dalam Komuniti in Bongawan, as well as identified recipients in Kalabakan and Kunak.
Also present at the event were Sabah Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Datuk Dr Mohd Ariffin Mohd Arif, PETRONAS Sabah and Labuan head Siti Ayu Abdul Wahab as well as heads of government departments and agencies.
