KUCHING: Teenager Xien Que Irwan Shah is looking forward to celebrating Hari Raya after receiving new clothes here.
“I’m happy that I got to choose new clothes for Raya. I picked a purple Baju Melayu which I felt suited me,” he said.
Xien Que, 13, was among the residents of Pertubuhan Kebajikan Baiturrahmah Kuching who were given baju raya and duit raya by a Sarawak government-linked company, Centexs Commercial.
Also receiving contributions were children from Pusat Jagaan Nur Murni.
They were given the opportunity to choose new clothes at Juma’ani Pavilion, a boutique operated by Centexs Commercial.
Muhammad Huzaifah Juti, another recipient from Baiturrahmah, was happy and thankful to receive a new Baju Melayu.
“As I’m still studying and not working yet, I was wondering how I would be able to afford new clothes for Hari Raya,” he said, adding that he chose a dark green outfit.
Baiturrahmah manager Abdul Rahman Hassan also expressed gratitude that the organisation was included in the charity programme.
“We look after young Muslim converts, including some who are orphans,” he said.
State Deputy Minister in the Premier‘s Department Datuk Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali, who handed over the contribution, commended Centexs Commercial and its partners for the initiative.
“This is something we welcome.
“We want to see government-linked companies doing well and giving back to society,” she said.
