The Star’s former photographer Ibrahim Mohtar passes away


PETALING JAYA: The Star has lost another gem when its former photographer Ibrahim Mohtar passed away due to heart failure on Thursday (April 6). He was 55.

Ibrahim started his career with The Star in January 1990 at the Johor Baru bureau.

In 2004, he was transferred to the company’s headquarters here before leaving in January 2018.

It is leant that he then started his own business.

The Star’s photo editor Ng Kok Leong described Ibrahim as a friendly and very good worker.

"Ibrahim started at the Johor Baru bureau before transferring to Petaling Jaya and joined the team under my leadership.

"He was a very good worker and friendly. He was also a highly skillful photographer as he had vast experience during his time at the Johor Baru office.

"He had covered a vast range of assignments with the team in Petaling Jaya, from politics to crime and sports," he said.

Ng had known Ibrahim for over 20 years.

Ng said Ibrahim had just performed umrah last month and fell sick upon returning to Malaysia.

Fellow photographer Glenn Guan said Ibrahim was a cheerful person and easy to work with.

"He was a nice and cheerful person. He was also easy to work with on many assignments.

"It is sad to know that he had passed away," he said, adding that he had met Ibrahim occasionally in between assignments last year.
