JOHOR BARU: The local man and his female companion shown in a viral video allegedly engaging in an indecent act in a car have been remanded for two days.
The remand order, which starts Friday (April 7), was issued by Magistrate Noorfazlin Hamdan at the Johor Baru court complex earlier Friday.
Noorfazlin allowed the remand application by the police to enable further investigation to be carried out on the couple in accordance with Section 377D of the Penal Code.
On Thursday (April 6), police detained the two suspects for allegedly engaging in an indecent act at a car park.
Seri Alam OCPD Supt Mohd Suhaimi Ishak said the couple were apprehended after a 23-second video of their indecent act was uploaded to Twitter and went viral on social media.
“The incident took place on Wednesday (March 29) in a car park at Taman Kota Masai, Pasir Gudang at 3.03pm," he said in a statement.
Supt Mohd Suhaimi said acting on information received on Thursday (April 6), police managed to locate both suspects between 4.15pm and 5.15pm.
He said the suspects were arrested in two different locations - Taman Johor Jaya, Johor Baru and Taman Kota Masai, Pasir Gudang.
“We have detained a male suspect aged 22 and a 17-year-old female suspect," said Supt Mohd Suhaimi.
He said initial investigations showed both suspects did not have previous criminal records, adding that police had seized the car and a red-and-white shirt.
