Experienced Star pixman passes away due to heart failure

PETALING JAYA: The photography fraternity has lost another gem when The Star’s former photographer Ibrahim Mohtar (pic) passed away yesterday.

He was 55 years old.

Ibrahim started his career with The Star in January 1990 at the Johor bureau.

In 2004, he was transferred to the company’s headquarters here before leaving in January 2018.

Afterwards, it was learned that he started his own business.

The Star’s photo editor Ng Kok Leong described Ibrahim as a friendly and good co-worker during his stint in the headquarters.

Ng added that working with him was pleasant and smooth.

“He was a very good worker and friendly. He was also a highly skilful photographer as he had vast experience during his time in the Johor Baru’s office.

“He covered a vast range of assignments during his time with the team in Petaling Jaya, from politics to crime and sports,” said Ng, who has known Ibrahim for over 20 years.

Ng said Ibrahim had just performed umrah last month and fell sick upon returning to Malaysia.

He passed away due to heart failure.

Fellow photographer Glenn Guan said Ibrahim was a cheerful person and easy to work with.

“He was a nice and cheerful person. He was also easy to work with on many assignments.

“It is sad to know that he has passed away,” he said, adding that he met Ibrahim occasionally in between assignments last year.
