FEMALE ah long (illegal moneylenders) are actively luring victims in Kuala Lumpur, reported Harian Metro.
At least 20 had been detected using sneaky tricks to trap their victims over the last two years.
They go by names such as Emma, Wendy, Winnie, Sherry or Amoi and appear nice initially on social media.
Their true colours are revealed when victims cannot repay their debts.
“These five names are very popular in the Klang Valley,” said Malaysia Muslim Consumers Association work secretary Muhammad Zharif Johor.
He said they had also ignored the association’s efforts to negotiate on behalf of victims.
Muhammad Zharif added that some even harassed borrowers by splashing paint or taking their phones and using this to blackmail them.
He said he believed these female ah along emerged during the initial movement control order in 2020.
A victim known as Zaimi said he met a woman who claimed to be a financial consultant and borrowed RM3,000.
He said everything went well at first until he faced repayment issues.
“I was scolded, threatened and cursed with abusive words,” he said.
“I did not expect to have a woman screaming and shouting at me over the phone.”
