Sabah Umno will be ‘good boys’ till next state polls, says Bung

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Umno will be "good boys" until the next state election, said its chairman Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin.

"We will wait for the next election, we will remain good boys as this is the Ramadan period," Bung said on Sunday (April 9).

Bung smiled as he replied to reporters asking him about Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi's statement on Saturday (April 8) that Sabah Barisan will not rock the political boat of Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) till the next state election.

Ahmad Zahid, however, said that the positions of Barisan members in GLCs, district councils and ketua kampung village should be maintained in line with the unity government.

Bung led Sabah Barisan to attempt a coup to take over the state government from the GRS led by Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor on Jan 6.

However, Barisan’s attempt to join hands with opposition Parti Warisan and Parti KDM failed when Sabah Pakatan Harapan and renegade assemblymen from Sabah Umno defected to support Hajiji's government.

Bung, who was speaking to reporters after chairing the first meeting of the new Sabah Umno committee here, said that they have formed a political bureau to discuss the possibility of tying up with electoral partners in the next state election due by September 2025.

"We are still discussing and are looking at options," he said.

Asked if Warisan, led by Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal was a possible partner, he said they will look at it at a later date.
