BATU PAHAT: Three men have been arrested at two separate locations here for possessing and selling fireworks and firecrackers without permits.
Batu Pahat OCPD Asst Comm Ismail Dollah said that the first suspect, a local man in his 30’s was arrested at about 11.30pm on Saturday (April 8) at Tasik Merdeka, Bukit Pasir while selling fireworks and firecrackers.
“In the first case, the suspect, who is a pipe technician, was spotted selling firecrackers and fireworks at the side of the road when checked by the police.
“Two other men, aged 28 and 29, were also arrested for the possession of fireworks and firecrackers on Jalan Tanjung Laboh at about 2am on Sunday (April 9). They were stopped at a police roadblock and were found with illegal fireworks.
“One of the suspects works as a car spare part salesman while the other is a factory operator,” he said in a statement on Sunday (April 9).
He said the fireworks worth about RM4,000 were seized following the two incidents.
The case is being investigated under Section 8 of the Explosives Substance Act, which carries fines of up to RM10,000 or a maximum of seven years imprisonment or both.
