First Syawal announcement: Muslims reminded to refer to official sources

SHAH ALAM: Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil (pic) has reminded Muslims in this country to only refer to official sources including local television channels for the announcement of the date of the first day of the month of Syawal.

He advised the people against being easily taken in by statements and information published on social media.

"The official announcement is only made by the Keeper of the Rulers' Seal. Let's not take dates from Indonesia, the United Arab Emirates, TikTok or WhatsApp.

"We need to refer to the official channel...if you are not sure, don't share,” he said at the 2023 Gempak Entrepreneur Awards ceremony at Malawati Stadium on Sunday (April 9) night.

Earlier, Fahmi thanked the Selangor government and the Selangor Information Technology and Digital Economy Corporation (Sidec) for organising the Gempak Entrepreneur Awards which aimed at recognising local entrepreneurs for their contributions to the national economy.

"God willing, I will ask the Malaysian Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) to work more closely with Sidec to ensure that we have synergy because we want to ensure that Selangor is able to be an example to other states as well as to make Malaysia a hub for the digital economy," he said. - Bernama
