Govt to review appointment of several GLC heads, says PM Anwar

IPOH: There will be a review of the appointment of several government-linked companies (GLC)’s heads including Datuk Seri Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim’s appointment, says Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

The Prime Minister said he would be meeting with Umno President Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi to discuss the matter.

"The (political) appointments are for GLCs, not publicly listed companies. Those appointed have the suitable qualifications.

"We will review again on several appointments including Abdul Azeez and those who have yet to receive their appointment letters," he told reporters at Bank Simpanan Nasional in Meru here on Monday (April 10).

On April 5, former Baling MP Datuk Seri Abdul Azeez Rahim was appointed as Kedah Regional Development Authority (KEDA) chairman.

The Coalition for Clean and Fair Elections (Bersih), had in March, slammed several political appointments to GLC including Datuk Dr Ashraf Wajdi Dusuki as Mara chairman and Balik Pulau MP’s Datuk Muhammad Bakhtiar Wan Chik as MyCreative Ventures Sdn Bhd’s chairman.

Anwar said those appointed must follow stricter rules.

"Unlike before, these appointments are based on their qualifications and it comes with a set of rules.

"For example, they must run their responsibilities well, they must not overspend and allowances are given based on their qualifications," he added.
